We have two fish toys: an older one (Fish 1) that has been losing its stuffing after three years, and a new one (Fish 2). Fish 1 flops vigorously and loudly, making a squeaking noise that I can hear from another room. In contrast, Fish 2 is much quieterâits sounds are barely audible unless you’re nearbyâand it flops more gently. The battery life seems comparable for both.
Our cat, an Omega-type Egyptian Mau, is friendly with people but non-dominant with other cats. He was a stray, and we’ve noticed that dietary deficiencies have affected his vision and caused osteopenia. The high visibility and softer flopping of Fish 2 are perfect for him. We keep both toys on the rug, but he completely ignores the old Fish and only engages with the new one. This morning, I snapped a photo of him curled up next to it, something he has never done with Fish 1.
There are many fish toys available, yet most resemble Fish 1 with a realistic gray-black scale pattern. Fish 2 is the only one I found with a high-contrast design. I’ve long suspected that our cat struggled to see the first toy on our patterned living room rug, but Fish 2 stands out, and he plays with it at least three or four times a day!
If you have a high-energy cat, Fish 1 might work well, but for our cat’s temperament and physical limitations, the new Fish 2 “Potaroma Floppy Fish Cat Toy” has been a much better fit.

I purchased one of these a few months ago, and my cats absolutely adored itâuntil my large dog got hold of it and destroyed it in no time. So, for my little cat’s first birthday, I bought another one. She took to it right away, and soon her big sister fell in love with it too. Now theyâre constantly battling over it, so Iâm getting another one. The little cat is a bit timid when itâs on (it seems to scare her), but she loves to cuddle and bunny kick it when itâs off. The big cat, on the other hand, adores it whether itâs on or off and loves to snuggle with it too.
Overall, this is a fantastic toy! Itâs very durable for a cat toyâthe last one held up well despite their rough play. Just keep it away from big dogs!

I am really disappointed with this toy fish. It arrived in a plastic bag without any instructions, and I couldn’t tell if the switch was on or off. After charging it for about two hours and trying to toggle the switch, it only moved its tail once. That’s the only movement I’ve seen from it. My experience may vary, but the fish didn’t function as expected. I also feel this toy isn’t suitable for dogs due to the delicate nature of the internal battery pack and movement arm. Any dog that plays with it would likely ruin it in no time with just a bit of chewing.

The price should be capped at $9.99. I’ve gone through two of these in just six months. The charging cable doesn’t stay connected and tends to slip out unless I wrap it around and secure it. The plastic tail flip mechanism has a known weak point. I’ve had to use parts from the other one to make repairs. The connection between the servo motor and the thin tail section is prone to breaking. It’s hard to believe I’m even considering buying a third one. The quality of the fish itself is decent, but the zipper definitely needs improvement.
