I purchased these at the same time as the Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel toy for my three dogs, anticipating at least one of the squirrels would go missing quickly, leading to some competition for the remaining ones. Surprisingly, all three squirrels are still here, although they’re showing some signs of wear. Admittedly, they’re also a bit slobbery, but that’s expected for dog toys.
I have two medium-sized dogs and one large dog. The two smaller dogs play with these toys daily, and after nearly three months, the squirrels are just now starting to wear out. My dogs love to tear apart their toys to get to the squeakers. If Iâm quick, I can collect the squeakers, wrap them in old socks, and give them back to the dogs. This way, they canât ingest the squeakers, and I donât have to worry about finding the matching socks. The dogs enjoy the squeaky sock toys as well, and they still play with the squeaker-less squirrel remains, making it a win-win situation. Out of the six squirrels I ordered, two no longer have squeakers, and only three are showing real wear. One looks brand new, likely because itâs been hiding under the dresser for the last two months. Clearly, one of these squirrels is quite clever! Kudos to Kyjen!
Both these toys and the Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel toy were a massive hit with my dogs, even the one who typically doesn’t care about toys. When I throw a squirrel for the others, she chases them and playfully disrupts their fetch, which keeps everyone entertained, including me. That’s great value for my money!
This was my first experience with Kyjenâs products, and I would definitely buy them again and recommend them to my dog-owning friends. These toys are fantastic! Yes, the squirrels are a bit small, but I expected that because I read the product description before ordering. My dogs donât mind the size, and it doesnât seem to affect the durability or functionality.
These are awesome dog toys. If you donât get them for your dogs, you might not be much fun, and itâs likely your dog would pee on you while you sleepâat least I would if I were your dog.

He enjoys hide-and-seek toys, and this one is not only adorable but also super interactive as he searches for the squirrels. Within 30 minutes, he has exhausted himself playing with it. It’s such an amazing toy that I even bought another one for his furry cousin. If you want your pup to be happy, definitely get this toy!

The squirrels and tree stump were adorable and entertaining at first. However, my dog is determined to destroy every toy. The stuffing from the tree stump was removed quickly, and the squirrels’ ears are missing now. Despite that, they are still usable. I usually attempt to sew them up a few times before discarding them. Theyâre a good size, and I believe they would last longer with other dogsâjust not with mine. Nevertheless, theyâre a great price!

I donât even mind finding the six squirrels from this giant toy scattered all over the house and outside! I purchased it a few weeks ago for our almost four-month-old German Shorthaired Pointer puppy, and she absolutely adores it. Despite the fact that our home is filled with dog toys (it’s quite excessive), she consistently chooses this one. She loves it when I play with her, squeaking the squirrels and tossing them for her to fetch. Sometimes she brings them back, even managing to carry two at once, which I find impressive. Other times, she prefers a game of keep away.
The plush tree trunk is great because you can refill it repeatedly and even add other toys or a couple of treats inside. I haven’t had to wash it yet, but I believe it will hold up well. I appreciate that replacement squirrels are available tooâinitially, two of the six went missing, but they eventually turned up. I opted for the Ginormous size because more is better. It came with six squirrels, so it wouldn’t be a big deal if she lost or damaged a few, and the larger size was only a few dollars more than the next size down while offering twice as many squirrels. It was under $18 when I bought it, and it qualified for Amazon PRIME shipping, which is always a plus.
Typically, I buy plush toys for my dog at yard sales for a dollar or two, but I would definitely repurchase this toy without hesitation. My only concern is that the squirrels are a bit small. Theyâre fine for now, but as she grows, they might seem like a choking hazard. Still, I trust that the toy designers have taken this into consideration. One of the squirrels has developed a slightly weaker squeak than the others, but itâs hard for any squeaky toy to withstand aggressive chewing indefinitely. If they all stop squeaking, I can always buy more squirrels!
I recorded a short video of my puppy playing with this toy. The footage doesnât do it justice, though, as itâs currently 97 degrees outside, and neither of us wants to run around in that heat. Nonetheless, Iâll include the clip because she does the typical animal shake with it, and she looks beautiful while playing. I highly recommend getting this toy!
Update: 03/28/2013âMy dog is now a year old, and we still have this toy and most of the squirrels intact. About a month ago, she did manage to tear a small hole between two of the plush tree trunk’s openings, but a quick fix with needle and thread did the trick. Iâve seen some negative reviews from people whose dogs destroyed the toy within minutes. My dog is a bird dog and is trained to retrieve unblemished game, but she does occasionally tear up toysâusually those that are specifically labeled âdog toys.â The squirrel toy, however, has held up well after I repaired the tear to prevent it from getting worse.
Letâs be honestâsome dogs will destroy anything. I sympathize with you if your dog is one of those. We recently had a playdate with a friend’s German Shepherd, which not only took my dog’s new tennis ball (also marketed as a dog toy) but also sat on it so no one could throw it. Then, it proceeded to chew it in half! The dog-specific tennis ball didnât last like a regular one. No worries, thoughâwe have plenty of tennis balls. Just know your dog and shop accordingly. I believe the appeal of this toy (with toys inside) keeps her engaged. I can put it away for a few weeks and then bring it back out, and she loves it all over again.
